It’s been a whirlwind past few days, but we’ve finally managed to catch our breathe and reflect on what’s been an amazing week!
We were incredibly excited to be selected as the 3rd place winner in this year’s Peak Performance Project!! Playing the legendary Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver was a dream come true for us guys, and we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came out and supported us at the show. We also want to once again say a HUGE thank you to everyone at Music BC, 100.5 The Peak FM, the Jim Pattison Broadcasting Group, and everyone who’s hard work made this project a reality. Congrats also to Current Swell for snagging the top prize, and The Boom Booms for a well deserved second place – both of these bands are amazing!!
We also had the pleasure of performing this past weekend at the BCCMA Awards Show. While we didn’t win any of the categories that we were nominated for, we met some great friends and saw some incredible talent. We want to say a big thank you to everyone in the BC Country community for making us feel welcome and allowing us to do our thing. What an amazing organization!!

We are very pleased to announce that Jamieson McCormack has been chosen as the winner of our ‘Promote The Matinée’ contest – and has won 2 Free Tickets to the Peak Performance Project Finale this Thursday Nov. 17 at the Commodore Ballroom!!! Jamieson amazed us all by making an entire dress out of Matinée posters, and took to the streets of Vancouver to promote the band! She made sure to let us know that the no trees were wasted in the making of this submission, and that the dress was entirely recyclable!

A big congratulations to Jamieson, and thank you to everyone who took part in the contest. We had some amazing submissions and it was a very difficult decision! Hope to see you all on Thursday for the big show!

As some of you know, us guys in The Matinée have recently teamed up with the Coquitlam Animal Shelter (in our hometown!) to try and raise awareness about the shelter and help find homes for all of the animals living there. We’ve been featuring our weekly ‘Pets of the Week’ and we’ve recently launched our web series ‘The Matinée are our Pets.’ On top of this, we are organizing a fundraiser for the Coquitlam Animal Shelter on Saturday Oct. 8 @ The John B. Pub in Coquitlam, BC. Check out the poster below for all of the important details – we truly hope to see you all there and help us support a very worthwhile cause.

At The Peak Performance Project Bootcamp in Princeton, BC a couple of weeks back all of the bands attending were challenged to write a song about Vancouver to celebrate the city’s 125th Birthday. We spent a lot of hours trying to figure out what to write about, but in the end we decided on telling the story of the Greenhill Park – a ship that caught fire in the Port of Vancouver back in 1945.
All of the bands at Bootcamp had their songs critiqued and judged (music isn’t about judging is it?!?) and after some long deliberation by the judges our song was picked as the winner!! For winning, we received a $300 gift from SOCAN – which we happily donated to the Music BC Foundation – and a nice little article on the SOCAN website. Check it here! We’re hoping to have the recorded version of the song available for everyone in the very near future – stay tuned!

The Matinee’s ‘Pet of the Week’ for this week is Darla, a spayed female, medium-haired adult cat. Darla is a sweet and interactive cat….when you try and walk past her she will stick out a paw to stop you for a cuddle. Darla has a fiesty personality (like our drummer Pete) and goes bonkers if you give her some catnip (also like our drummer Pete). Darla isn’t too thrilled about the other cats at the shelter, but in a home with one other she might be ok. For more information please contact The Coquitlam Animal Shelter at 604.927.7387 (PETS).

Today is the official launch of Vogville Presents, a monthly video series on Vogville.com documenting the unique stories of select musicians.
The first installment of Vogville Presents covers yours truly, The Matinée, and our new song “L’Absinthe”.
Being chosen as the debut headliners for Vogville Presents is another high point for us following a banner year in which we performed at the Olympic Men’s Hockey Bronze Medal Game at Rogers Arena and were nominated for the prestigious BCCMA Award as Best Roots Artist. We were recently signed by Simkin Artist Management – home to Carly Rae Jepsen and The Zolas – and are current contenders in The PEAK Performance Project 2011.

What a week we just had! From Aug 26 thru to Sept 2 we had the absolute pleasure of spending a week at RockRidge Canyon in Princeton, BC as part of this year’s
Peak Performance Project Bootcamp. This will definitely go down as one of the most exciting, entertaining and informative trips that this band has ever taken part in.
We want to say a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE thanks to everyone at 100.5 The Peak FM (who are without a doubt some of the nicest people in all of the world), all of the staff at Music BC (who are equally nice!), all of the faculty who helped out, all of the other bands who’s talent and friendship will stay with us for a long time, all of the staff at RockRidge Canyon, and Mr. Jimmy Pattison and the Pattison Broadcasting Group for making this trip a possibility. This was a first class event put on by a first class group of people and we are humbled to have had the opportunity to take part.
As we move forward, we hope to see everyone at our Peak Performance Project Showcase on Thursday Sept 29 at The Red Room (Vancouver, BC). We will be hitting the stage at 9:00PM sharp so don’t be late.
Thank you again – The Matinee.

The Matinee’s Pet of the Week for this week is Puff the Bearded Dragon. Puff is a Bearded Dragon and is one of the more unique animals that the Coquitlam Animal Shelter has up for adoption. Puff does require some special care and a large enclosure with proper lighting and hear.
Puff has a variety of fruits and veggies that he eats daily, but his favourite delicacy is crickets! Please make sure you do some research on Bearded Dragons to ensure they are the pet for you. Please contact the Coquitlam Animal Shelter at 604.927.7387 (PETS) for more information.

We are writing from beautiful Princeton, BC as we kick off day #3 of the Peak Performance Project Bootcamp at the beautiful RockRidge Canyon Resort. The information and seminars have been amazing so far – we’ve had one on one chats with industry pros like Grant Lawrence (CBC), Bob D’eith (Music BC), Brent Bain (FACTOR) and Janine Verrault (YouThink) to name a few.
And the bands…..don’t get us started on the other bands. We had the absolute pleasure of watching Hillary Grist, The Belle Game, Fields of Green, and Sex with Strangers kill it on the stage last night. All of the other artists up here are 100% professional and it’s been a blast learning and listening to all of the other talent.
To stay up to date with all of our photos and blogs, check out the Peak Performance Project Website where photos and information is being constantly updated. We’re in the studio with the very talented Shawn Cole on Monday night, and our showcase is this Wednesday. Exciting times….more news to come soon!!

Over the past few weeks we have been working hard to raise awareness about the Coquitlam Animal Shelter and some of the animals who are currently living there. All of us guys in The Matinee grew up in Coquitlam and we all happen to own animals that we’ve adopted from this very shelter. Last week, a few of us stopped by the shelter to check out the facility and meet some of the animals. We put together a quick video in the hopes that we can continue to raise awareness about this cause that is very dear to all of us.
If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting a new pet, please take the time to check out the Coquitlam Animal Shelter online, or give them a call at 604.927.7387 (PETS).

The Matinee’s ‘Pet of the Week’ for this week is Diesel, a neutered male, adult Pitt Bull X.
Diesel is a unique looking guy and we aren’t quite sure what his mix is. The black and white makes us think Dalmation, but we also think there could be some Cattle Dog in there. Diesel is a sweet natured boy with lots of energy. He will need an experienced owner who is familiar with Bully Breeds. Diesel has… some obedience training, but could benefit from some classes with his new family.
Diesel gets along with some dogs, mostly females and would need to be introduced to any dog in the home prior to adoption. We would recommend an adult only home for Diesel due to his energy level. Diesel is a big cuddle bug and would be quite happy to snuggle up on the couch on a cold wet winter day! Please contact the Coquitlam Animal Shelter at 604.927.7387 (PETS) for more info.

Us guys in The Matinee are pleased to announce that we are teaming up with the City of Coquitlam Animal Shelter in an effort to raise awareness about the facility and the animals living at this shelter. As we all grew up in Coquitlam (and a few of us happen to have adopted pets from this particular shelter!) we are hoping to do what we can to give back to the community and hi-light the difficulties that the shelter faces in looking after an increasingly larger abandoned pet population. As we move through the rest of Summer and Fall, The Matinee will be donating a portion of all merch sales to the shelter, and every week a new animal from the shelter will be featured as a ‘pet of the week.’
We are encouraging everyone to please check out the Animal Shelter’s website. If you are looking for a new pet, please take the time to check out The Coquitlam Animal Shelter’s list of adoptable animals before consulting a breeder.
There will be more news to come regarding this new initiative, including an upcoming fundraiser show and video blogs from the shelter itself. Stay tuned!!

Here are we approaching August, the days just seem to fly by now. There is much to do, and much more to tell you about!
We are headed up to Whistler to play at Dusty’s (Creekside) for the National BBQ Championships. Sat/Sun nights, with Daniel Wesley joining us on the Sunday!
We’ve been in the studio a few times to record some one-offs – new songs that we’re starting to play live. We tracked one (Absinthe) at Vogville Studios in Port Coquitlam with Paul Shatto. It will be released in early August to coincide with a web-video series that Jonathan Fluevog (Vogville Studio owner) is premiering…. and the first episode starts none other than The Matinee! The other song is as of yet untitled, and we put it down to 2-inch tape at The Armoury in Vancouver with Shawn Cole. Listen up for that sometime soon too ; )
Lastly, but most importantly, we are uber pleased to announce that we have signed with Simkin Artist Management based in our hometown Vancouver. We join a healthy roster and a great team, and couldn’t be happier to have them help us out. Check out our page on their site here: http://simkinartistmanagement.com/artists/artist/the-matinee
We have a few more summer shows coming up sp be sure to check our tour dates for all the updates. See ya!
